Joe Gentle, Maintenance Technician
Maintenance Technician Joe Gentle began working at Bennington Properties in February of 2016. Joe brings a lifetime of construction experience, as well as a lifetime in Oregon, with him.
While Joe, his wife, their 12-year-old daughter, and 4-year-old German Shepherd have lived in Bend full-time since July 2015, Joe was born and raise in the Portland area. After graduating from West Linn High School, he went to work for his family’s construction business. There, he filled the roles of contractor, estimator, superintendent, and general manager. He took his experience in the family business to work for as a general manager for another Portland-based construction firm, where he stayed before arriving at Bennington Properties.
Joe grew up with many hobbies, including playing basketball, soccer, skiing, riding and racing BMX bikes, riding motorcycles, fishing and camping. He still enjoys many of his childhood activities, but now his list includes spending time with family, hiking, road trips, working on and around the house, and automobile mechanics.
Joe’s favorite childhood memory is of spending time at his family’s Oregon beach house in Neskowin. He would ride quads with his dad and older brother at Winchester Bay, or simply play on the beach and throw the frisbee.
Joe has been vacationing in Sunriver most of his life and the family used to own a home here. After spending much of their spare time in the area, Joe and his wife bought a second home in Sunriver in 2010. They finally got tired of the rainy portland lifestyle and made the move to sunny Central Oregon in the summer of 2015.
Growing up, Joe spent his summer vacations riding the bike paths, while winters were filled with skiing Mount Bachelor’s powder—a nice respite from the wet, icy conditions at Mount Hood. Joe admits that being from Portland, it’s hard not to enjoy Central Oregon’s year-round sun. He enjoys spending time with his family on the trails, or rafting and fishing the rivers, as well as camping and hiking.
Joe’s advice to visitors is to just get out and take advantage of all the outdoors have to offer, especially in the warm summer months!
“I think the best part of working for this company, especially coming from a corporation, is the family atmosphere and having an owner who is hands-on and cares about his employees as much as he cares about the clientele.”
