THE OREGON OBSERVATORY began its astronomical [pun intended] growth in the 1990’s culminating in its current status as the largest public viewing observatory in the country, although they do like to say ‘in the universe’. With the perfect black night skies in Central Oregon, viewing is spectacular. The volunteers and staff are incredibly knowledge, enthusiastic and love sharing with visitors. From solar viewing, constellation “walks”, rocketry classes [yes, build and then launch your very own rocket] this is an experience not to be missed. But do check out the website for specific times and remember, viewing is always weather-dependent.
