Romantic Night at Marcello’s in Sunriver
It only took 18 years and living just one mile away to discover what most, if not all, Sunriver locals already know, that Marcello’s Cucina Italiana is a diamond in the rough.
My wife, Holly, and I were looking for a much needed respite from parenting our five wonderful children and we decided staying local was the order of the night. Our evenings out generally take us to restaurants in Bend, because, well, we thought that was where the best “date” restaurants were. We were proved wrong.
In the middle of the winter, where “night life” only describes the activities of our resident wild animals, we walked into a packed restaurant, filled exclusively with locals. We were fortunate to get a small table next to the roaring fireplace. Our warm and welcoming waitress, Shannon, brought us a bottle of a local Oregon Pinot Noir (they had a California Pinot, but who drinks CA Pinot Noir when in Oregon?). Holly continues to rave about her Penne Carbonara with sautéed pancetta, green peas & mushrooms in a garlic cream sauce. I enjoyed every bite of my Linguini Puttanesca, which was a delicious assortment of prawns, scallops, salmon, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, capers, and diced tomato in a pesto sauce.
Our evening at Marcello’s Sunriver was one of our most memorable in our 12 years of marriage. A treat we were pleasantly surprised to receive just a mile away from our little house in the woods.
