Bennington Properties is
truly a family business. The founders of the company, Gene
and Penny, recently celebrated 30 years of marriage.
Penny’s sister, Carolyn, has been an instrumental part of
the company from its beginning and more recently Gene and
Penny’s son Robert Bennington and his wife Holly have joined
the team. Gene Bennington was born and raised in Dayton,
Ohio. After graduating from high school, Gene enlisted in
the Marine Corp, where he served for four years. The
Marines took him to the Kaneohe Marine base in Honolulu,
Hawaii, where after his service he graduated from the
University of Hawaii with a degree in Zoology.
Penny was born and
raised on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai and after high school
moved to Oahu where she graduated from the University of
Hawaii with a degree in Medical Technology. After college,
Penny and Gene married and eventually gave birth to their
only son, Robert. After Robert’s birth, the Benningtons
moved to Tualatin, Oregon where they spent the next 15
years. Gene worked in Real Estate and Penny worked as a
medical administrator for Kaiser Permanente until she
obtained her Masters degree in Business and joined Gene as a
licensed Realtor. In 1997, Robert was off to college and
Gene and Penny decided it was time to move to beautiful
Sunriver, Oregon.
In 1998, Gene and Penny
started Bennington Properties, LLC with only 1 vacation
home. Robert graduated from Oregon State University with a
degree in Zoology (the apple doesn’t fall too far from the
tree). While in school Robert met Holly, who was in the
Spanish Masters Program at the University of Oregon.
Holly’s fluency in Spanish has come in very handy for the
Benningtons. With four native Spanish speakers on staff,
communication is only made possible through Holly’s help.
One notable thing about the Benningtons is their love for
dogs. Visitors to their office are greeted by the wagging
tails of Molly and Kai. Molly, Gene and Penny’s petite
Yellow Lab, is the little sweetheart in the family and loves
to lie by the fireplace. Robert and Holly are the proud
parents of Kai, a 75lb Chesapeake Bay Retriever who has an
absolute obsession with tennis balls. |
