Sunriver Weather
Sunriver sits
at about 4,000 feet of elevation just east of the
Cascade Mountain Range. Our region is considered
part of the high desert of Central Oregon and has
a very dry climate compared to the western part of the
state.
Temperatures
during the winter can range anywhere from single digits
up to the 40's and 50's. On average we receive
less than 70 days of rain each year which is why
Sunriver was named "Sun" river. With its
characteristically blue skies and sunny days, Sunriver
attracts outdoors enthusiasts all year long. Much
of our precipitation happens during the winter months
creating a white blanket of snow that covers everything
and making Sunriver look like a magical winter
wonderland. Our first snow usually happens around
October, with small snow showers occurring throughout
November and December. The heaviest snow usually
does not occur until the end of December of into January
and lasting until March.
During the
summer temperatures hover mostly in the 70's and 80's
during the day and only reach the 90's for about 1 or 2
weeks out of the year. Being 4,000 feet in the
mountains, we often see 30 to 40 degree temperature
swings during the night. No hot sticky sleepless
nights in Sunriver. With a fan in the window you
can quickly cool down a house to where you will be
piling the blankets on when you wake up in the morning.
During the
hotter parts of the summer we often get some incredible
lighting and thunderstorms that role through the region
making for an awe inspiring show on the horizon.
Moderate,
but comfortable temperatures, lower prices, and very few
crowds make Sunriver a great place to visit during the
Spring and Fall. Enjoy the changing colors on the
aspen trees during the fall and the bright green new growth
sprouting up during the spring.
