Canoeing, Kayaking, or Rafting the Deschutes River
A popular activity in Sunriver is a leisurely float down the
Deschutes River. You start at the Sunriver Marina
where you can rent canoes, kayaks, or rafts and then float down
the Deschutes River until you reach a pull out site where you are picked
up and driven back to your car parked at the Marina.
This is a great activity for the entire family. There
are no rapids on this section of the Deschutes River and
just a modest current. You can make it a work out and
row, row, row your boat or just sit back and let the current
take you on the 2 hour scenic float through Deschutes
National Forest. Keep your eye open for deer, elk,
porcupines, or river otter that live along the river.
One of my favorite memories before we moved to Sunriver was
renting several canoes with my family and engaging in all
out "water war" with the family and friends in the other
canoes. Buckets, water guns, or even just the oars of
the boat served as our weapons of choice. Perfect fun
for a hot summer day (and a great way to get that sibling or
cousin that deserves a good soaking).

Rafting (Whitewater)
Sunriver and Central Oregon have become the most popular
white water rafting destination in the country. With the
Deschutes River, McKenzie River, and North Umpqua River all
right here in Central Oregon, there is something for
