You already know the
obvious stuff – pack your dog’s favorite toys, food,
an old towel to clean dirty paws, and an old sheet
to protect furniture & beds. But here are a few
tips you may not have thought of:
♦ Anticipate the
possibility that your dog may get lost and bring
along a photo.
♦ Pack a flashlight
for nighttime nature calls.
♦ Reduce the threat of
carsickness by feeding your dog a few hours before
traveling. Bring an extra few days worth of dog
food in case your trip takes longer than expected
(this is particularly important if your dog is on a
special diet). Bring several days worth of water
for both you and your dog. If your dog has a
sensitive stomach, fill water bottles with the tap
water they usually drink. If you forget to bring
their favorite water dish, a resealable bag serves
as a handy disposable-drinking vessel on the road.
♦ Plan activities
that involve your dog, accept that you’re
exchanging canine companionship for personal freedom.
If you intend to spend any part of the trip
without your dog, you may want to consider
putting them in a kennel or hiring a dog sitter.
Please do
not leave your dog unattended in the home or garage.
♦ Protect your dog
when the car is moving, either by keeping them in a
cage or buying a seat belt restraint made especially
for dogs. On a warm day, the temperature in a car
can reach 120° in a matter of minutes-even with the
windows partially open. Your pet can quickly suffer
brain damage or die from heatstroke or suffocation
when trapped in high temperatures.
♦ In case of emergency
bring your vet’s contact information and your dog’s
vaccination records. Call ahead to your hotel or
property management company and ask for the
locations and phone numbers of emergency veterinary
services in their area.

To be able to continue to
offer pet-friendly homes, we need your help!
-
We prefer that you do not
leave your dog alone in the home or locked
in any room (or garage).*
-
We prefer that you keep
your dog off of the beds and furniture. **
- Please
dry off their fur and paws before allowing
them in the home.
- Please clean up after your dog and
dispose of all poop in trashcans.
(Call us if you need poop
bags)
*Our main concern is when
a dog is left in a room unattended; they
will scratch the door wanting to get in or
out. Even the most well behaved dogs will
behave differently when left
unattended in a home they are not familiar
with. We understand that this may not be
possible at all times and ask that you
please take responsibility for any damage
that your dog may cause.
** Please bring a sheet to
cover furnishings with you if you and your
best friend prefer to cuddle. |
